Gmail Tips & Tricks

Most of us who are using web email accounts; must have atleast 1 gmail ID on their profile. Gmail is not only world's best free web email service but it has many features that make it perfect for personal as well as official use. Here I will discuss some of the Tips & Tricks regarding gmail:

Fetching Emails Based on Date Criteria

I personally use this trick to wipe out my Older Emails (which are of no use to me). Simply use following queries in search bar …

Query What you can search by
before:2016/12/31 Displays all the emails that are received earlier to 31st December, 2016
after:2017/01/01 Displays all the emails that are received after 1st January, 2017
before:2016/12/31 after:2016/01/01 Displays all the emails that are received between 1st January, 2016 and 31st December, 2017
older_than:3d Displays all the emails that are received atleast 3 days or more older. Search for messages older or newer than a time period using d (day), m (month), and y (year)
newer_than:2m Displays all the emails that are received atleast 2 months or less older. Search for messages older or newer than a time period using d (day), m (month), and y (year)
older_than:12d newer_than:1y Displays all the emails that are older than 12 days and newer than 1 year
after:2015/01/01 before:2015/12/31 rock climbing This query will list every message with the words "rock" and "climbing" from 1st January, 2015 to 31st December, 2015.
newer_than:5d has:attachment This query will list all emails with attachments sent within the last 5 days.
before:2008/04/30 from:Jenna dance This query will list all emails from before April 30th, 2008, from Jenna, that include the word "dance."

Fetching Emails Based on Sender, Recipient & Other Related Elements

Simply use following queries in search bar & see the magic

from:Mushtaq Specify the sender (Based on Name of Sender)
from:mushtaque.asghar@gmail.com Specify the sender (Based on Email Address)
to:Wajid Specify a recipient (Based on Name of recipient)

cc:david Recipients in the cc or bcc field (Note: You can't find messages that you received on bcc.)
subject:dinner Words in the subject line
from:amy OR from:david Messages that match multiple terms
{from:amy from:david} Messages that match multiple terms
dinner -movie Remove messages from your results
has:attachment Messages that have an attachment
filename:pdf Attachments with a certain file type
filename: homework.txt Attachments with a certain name
"dinner and movie tonight" Search for an exact word or phrase
subject:(dinner movie) Group multiple search terms together
in:anywhere movie Messages in any folder, including Spam and Trash
deliveredto:username@gmail.com Messages delivered to a certain email address

Fetching Emails Based on Label, Status & Other Elements

label:friends Messages that have a certain label
category:updates Messages in a certain category

is:important or label:important Search for messages that are marked as important
is:read is:starred Starred, unread, or read messages
has:purple-star Messages that include an icon of a certain color

Fetching Emails Based on Size

Query What you can search by
size:1000000 Messages larger than a certain size in bytes
size:10M Messages larger than a certain size
larger:10M Messages larger than a certain size
larger_than:5m Messages larger than a certain size
smaller_than:8M Messages smaller than a certain size
is:read is:starred Starred, unread, or read messages
has:purple-star Messages that include an icon of a certain color
is:chat movie Chat messages
